PROPERTY PERFORMANCE MONITORING

COURSE BACKGROUND

Property is required by all organisations in order to fulfil their main functions. It is often both a substantial investment for, and cost to an organisation, and therefore has a direct impact on the organisation’s financial performance. It can also have an impact on other areas of performance such as organisational image, market share, and care of the environment.

Property although a key asset for operational organisations, is however under-considered and poorly managed by most. There is apparent lack of knowledge of how to precisely measure the value added of property and whether it is performing. Only organisations who are able to act as ‘informed client’ for their property and its management will obtain the appropriate contribution from a vital financial, operational and physical asset.

It is essential that senior management ask the right questions. The pivotal question being: ‘Is the organisation’s property and its management appropriately resourced and providing value for money?’

Fundamental to the good management is the setting of standards and performance monitoring procedures. These will enable the contribution of property and its management to be assessed from individual actions and premises through to the total impact on the organisation.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

The specific objectives of the course are to:

  • Provide information on good practice with regard to monitoring the performance of operational property assets
  • Identify models and/or techniques which have worked in at least one organisation and may be of use to other organisations who seeking to evaluate their own property and its management.
  • Establish a general framework involving some key questions when evaluating property and its management for organisations to adapt to their own specific requirements.
