THE BUSINESS OF REAL ESTATE MANAGEMENT

COURSE BACKGROUND

Every business requires space to operate in, real estate/property as such forms an essential factor of production incurring cost. For most corporate businesses, this cost is quite substantial. Where the property is owned for organisational use and/or as investments, the profile of as well as the way in which real estate resources are managed can have an impact on the organisation’s ability to achieve its business objectives and profit margins. Most real estate arrangements involve long-term commitments; real estate assets are also not very liquid. Real estate management thus requires skills that are normally different from running any other business.

The specific objectives of the course are to:

COURSE LEADERS

Wong Tuck Wah

Mr Wong is an Associate Faculty with UniSIM and an ACTA certified facilitator with more than 30 years of experience in working with people across all levels, from Board to Rank and File. He has held senior positions in Government and was formerly Chief Operating Officer of National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) Healthcare Co-operative Ltd and was responsible for facilities acquisition, management and business operations. Mr Wong sits on the panel of experts pertaining to employment relations with the Asia Productivity Organisation (APO) and has provided consultancy and facilitation services to many APO member countries.

Dr. Quah Lee Kiang

Dr Quah is the Director of the Real Estate & Construction Centre and the Real Estate & Construction Academy in Singapore.  She has extensive regional and international experience in Project and Facilities Management & Maintenance research, advice and academia.  He professional affiliations include being past President of the Chartered Institute of Building Singapore Centre, Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) Asia Board, Singapore Board and Asia Pacific Sustainability Board.  Dr Quah is currently Chairperson of the Sustainability Committee in the International Facility Management Association (IFMA) Singapore Chapter.
